Melting snow causes parked cars to collide

Snow can cause chaos for drivers in the UK, from four hour delays to being unable to see during a blizzard, but last week snow caused a bizarre incident outside our office.

Last week we had a few snow showers and when we arrived at work on Friday morning there was a very light dusting of the white stuff.

At lunch time a member of staff was about to pop home for lunch, when she spotted something that wasn’t quite right.

We don’t understand the science behind this at all, but this is what we saw: two cars, belonging to members of staff, had slid into the side of our MD’s car. (They both swear they weren’t ganging up on him!)

There is a slight gradient on the car park but we have parked there for well over three years, and in heavier snow too, and that has never happened to one car let alone two at the same time.

The cars parked next to our staff members’ hadn’t moved at all and further up the car park, where the gradient is steeper, we couldn’t see any cars that had moved either.

Thankfully, there was no damage and the cars were untangled without any issues.

We are completely baffled as to why this might have happened. Of course, the first thing we did after moving the cars was Google it and we can’t find any similar stories.

If anyone knows why a tiny amount of snow melting might have caused two parked cars to start moving and slide down a slight slope, please leave a comment and let us know.

We think the snow has made it quite clear that it’s not as nice and fluffy as it has tricked us all into believing.
